Don't let the SSD application process overwhelm you

If you are reading this blog, there is a good chance you or someone you love is suffering from a serious illness, injury or medical condition and you may be wondering whether you qualify for Social Security disability benefits. The Social Security Administration has developed two programs designed to help Americans who are seriously disabled and are unable to maintain gainful employment.

The programs are not designed to fully cover the expenses associated with a disability but they may provide some financial relief while you are out of work recovering or dealing with your condition. Social Security disability benefits cover serious injuries such as neck, spinal cord or brain injuries; illness such as cancer and heart disease and mental conditions such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, all of which could render a person unable to work. In order to qualify it must be proven that the condition is expected to last at least a year or end in death and that the condition is prohibiting one from working.

The application process can seem overwhelming to those not familiar with it. This can prove to be especially difficult considering that you are already suffering and fighting though a disabling condition. It may be in your best interest to reach out to a law firm familiar with Social Security Disability to both see whether you qualify and to learn how to proceed in applying.

Although there is an appeals process if your initial application was denied, it is a lengthy process. It is in your best interest to do the application the right way the first time to avoid the likelihood of getting the first application denied and have to reapply.
