Heart disease affects millions of Americans each year

There are various forms of cardiovascular diseases that affect the functioning of your heart. Each of these can be serious and could lead to long-term or even permanent conditions, or even death if not treated or properly and promptly addressed. Such cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the United States, including residents in and near the Anaheim, California region.

A few examples of common cardiovascular conditions include coronary artery disease, which is caused by a hardening of the arteries of the heart. The arteries play a crucial role in the functioning of the heart, providing necessary nutrients and oxygen to the heart, necessary to keep it running. Heart valve disease occurs when one of your valves does not properly close, or if a valve narrows, which restricts blood flow to the rest of your body and could lead to other serious issues.

The term heart failure can be a bit of a misnomer, as it does not necessarily mean a total failure of the heart, but rather that the heart is not operating at 100 percent. Symptoms of heart failure could mean swelling and shortness of breath. Heart failure is among one of the most common forms of cardiovascular disease, affecting as many as five million Americans. It affects over 500,000 new victims each year, and is the leading cause of hospitalization among American victims over the age of 65.

For those suffering from a debilitating injury, illness or mental condition that prevents them from maintaining gainful employment, it might be in their best interests to consider seeking Social Security disability benefits for their condition. If a work-related illness has caused your disability, you may be entitled to compensation from Social Security to help provide some financial relief while you are out of work or trying to recover from your condition.
